The Industrial Workers of the World in Ireland held its latest round of Workplace Representative Training for members over the weekend. We would like to pay thanks to our excellent IWW training team, and also to those fellow workers who stepped forward to take up the offer of becoming fully trained as a workplace rep with the IWW.
In doing so, those who participated in our training will now take part in our growing team of workplace reps across Ireland. A successful team who daily take part in important solidarity efforts as a union by directly supporting their fellow workers on the ground. Challenging bad pay and working conditions both North and South.
We asked fellow workers who participated in the weekend training for their own reflections on the Workplace Representative training. One participant said "I took part in the IWW rep training in Derry. The facilities and location were great, and every effort was made to ensure our comfort. Our trainer was excellent, and we were able to blast through a lot of content while stopping to explore issues that were important to us individually and as a group.
“The material was clear and relatable, with room for us to add our ideas. If the purpose of this training was to improve our confidence, competence, and accountability as IWW reps, then I feel that it was very successful. It was also made clear that this training fits into our larger work of workplace organising as part of class struggle. I would recommend that all FW’s attend this training if they get a chance.”
Another fellow worker adde: "The whole experience was overwhelmingly positive. Our fellow worker was an amazing trainer. He’s got the knowledge and the manners. What a pleasure. I recommend everyone in the union to take this course and get the ball rolling.
“Participants were involved, passionate and committed. The whole experience was relaxed but focused. It is a very inspiring and empowering weekend and you will come out feeling a lot more confident.”
If you’re a member of the IWW and would like to assist fellow workers as we help to organise our places or work. Please consider becoming a Workplace Rep and take part in the next round of training by emailing: ireland@iww.org.uk
