Today marks the 90th anniversary of the Spanish Social Revolution. To defend against a fascist military coup, the workers took up arms, but they didn't stop there.
They seized control of factories, redistributed land, and disempowered capital and the Church. For a brief period, the entire metropolis of Barcelona was under anarchist-syndicalist control.
The revolution ultimately failed primarily due to the military strength of the internationally supported fascists and the betrayal by the state "socialists."

It is important to engage with the Spanish Social Revolution even today, 90 years on, to learn from its mistakes and successes, and to recognise that a liberated society is possible.
This Industrial Workers of the World extends our love and solidarity with all those today who commemorate and celebrate the social revolution which began 90 years today.
To our fellow workers in the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo CNT and to our comrades, brothers and sisters internationally, in the ranks of the International Confederation of Labour CIT ICL as we too, raise a glass and a clenched fist and declare ¡No Pasaran! - They shall not pass!
