Union Solidarity with Community Fighting Toxic Gold Mining Company

Updated: Jan 8, 2021

The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW Ireland Branch) expresses its concern at the arrest of Greencastle resident close to toxic gold mining site yesterday.

A spokesperson for the IWW Ireland Branch commented following the release of Greencastle resident, who had been detained at Omagh PSNI Station stating: "Our union feels that the current situation of intimidation of Greencastle residents needs to be brought to an end. The arrest and detention yesterday of yet another Greencastle resident by the PSNI is viewed clearly as yet another act of harassment.

"The IWW have documented this latest incident as part of an ongoing policy of intimidation and harassment of an entire community. A community that refuses to be bought out by a poisonous multinational corporation, just so Dalradian can profit and destroy our land, our communities and the lives of workers.

"We condemn the actions of the PSNI and reiterate our call for a united community, environmental and union response against ongoing threats and intimidation of a peaceful community. We must demand an end to Dalradians poisonous agenda to try and destroy this landscape and its community any further for the sake of profit.

"This multinational death company needs to listen to the community of Greencastle and surrounding counties who demand an immediate end to Dalradian and their Toxic Gold Mining in Our Sperrins!"
