Following the much-debunked Cass Review in Britain, British politicians have begun to roll back rights and protections for trans folks. These same politicians previously paid lip-service to the LGBTQ+ community, before turning on them.
They are even looking to remove any mention of transgender identity from education, echoing the "Section 28" legislation against "promotion of homosexuality" from decades ago!
A recent UK supreme court case ruling on "biological sex" has also prompted a worrying trend of employers discriminating against trans workers.
Right now, there are elements in Irish society who want to do the same by dragging us back.
It is clear that under no circumstances should we ever believe that politicians, courts, or employers have our best interests at heart.
The only defence that we can rely on against homophobia and transphobia is to organise strong communities and workplaces!
