International Women's Day was celebrated throughout Ireland, with street actions taking place in Dublin, Derry, Belfast, Limerick and Cork. Most events this year helped highlight the ongoing genocide in Palestine as well as the growth in militarism throughout the world and the impact that this is having on women internationally.
Representatives on the Industrial Workers of the World took part in demonstrations held across the island of Ireland along with other trade union and community activists. In Derry, a spokesperson for the IWW Ireland Branch said that: "It's a decent turnout, and we're hearing that similar actions around the country are also having a very colourful and noisy International Women's. Most of todays actions are helping to raise or highlight the spiralling figures in femicide cases. Calling out the urgency and need to continue to educate our children on sexism, misogyny and patriarchal behaviour within society. None of us should remain silent in challenging this. Be that in the home, in schools, on the streets, in the workplace, and even in our unions.
"Unions also have a very important role in how we can effectively challenge these types of behaviour, particularly in how we are structured and even how we would like to view a new society.
"It is amazing to see so many younger people here and our continuing solidarity with ongoing genocide in Palestine."
