Help us make history in the TEFL sector
Teachers at EC London are currently balloting for strike action, an unprecedented moment in the UK’s private English language teaching sector. If successful, this will be the first-ever strike mandate won by teachers in the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) industry.
Our demands are simple and fair:
Restoration of real-terms pay – our wages have fallen far behind inflation.
Paid admin time – standard in most of education, still denied to TEFL teachers.
Union recognition – EC management refuses to negotiate with our union, the TEFL Workers’ Union (part of the IWW), despite a formal request submitted on 30 May.
This ballot is a response to management’s refusal to engage in good-faith talks. It’s the next step in our campaign to improve working conditions for ourselves, our colleagues, and the future of our profession.
Why we need your support now
Balloting to strike is a crucial stage of our campaign and it costs money. We’re raising funds now to build our strike fund in advance, so that if the ballot is successful and EC continues to stonewall, we’ll be ready to take action without delay.
Your support will help cover:
Loss of income if we go on strike
Campaign materials
Travel, outreach and building solidarity with students and supporters.
As one EC London teacher says: “All we want right now is for the company to recognise our union and open negotiations. We love our jobs and our students, we’re fighting to improve things for everyone.”
Donate now to support this historic campaign and help shift the balance of power in the TEFL industry.
