Indeed. Our Irish comrades are right. Independently of what one may think about the current international situation (and there is a lot to be said), one thing is for certain: most of the victims will hail from the working class and it is us who will bear the brunt of the conflict. The rich will not be affected by the outcome in the same manner as workers will be.

Ordinary citizens and common folks are being murdered in their thousands by regimes all over the world. It is our comrades and fellow workers across the globe who are suffering the decisions made by the powerful and their representatives in government. Be it a bombing campaign, an endless war, a shooting by federal agents, naked and murderous repression or at a tip of a drone, the blood of thousands is running on the streets.

Meanwhile, the rich get richer, come rain or high-water. Inequality has vastly increased over the last years, and it will be no different this time. Make no mistake, whatever happens they will find a way to make money out of it. Utility bills may go up, and it may well be a struggle to make ends meet. Unemployment rates and inflation may increase. It doesn’t matter for those who have lots of money or whose livelihood does not rely on a wage or a job, but it does for us. We will suffer; they will not. What is a crisis for us, is an opportunity for them.

Every situation and every conflict is unique. Depending on opinions and points of view each person will adjudicate blame differently. On top of that, nothing happens in a vacuum.

Usually, confrontations have a long and protracted history that may go back decades.

Depending on what side of the fence one is, historically and currently, he or she may choose one of the sides involved over the others. But one thing is certain: workers are cannon fodder in the hands of those calling the shots!

Only solidarity can upend this situation. Workers all over the world are refusing to lend their hands to murderous regimes, while organising in anticipation to future crises. Next time the stock market tumbles or a financial bubble bursts and they try to pass the repercussions on to us, the rich and powerful will find a determined working class that has been building its local unions and international organisation over the last years. There’s still plenty to do. Will you join us?

Now more than ever, amidst the international unrest, fight the rich and not their wars!
