A number of speakers called upon Tesco to end its trade with Israel and demanded an immediate to disciplinary procedures against the Tesco Worker involved.
A spokesperson for the IWW Ireland Branch said following today's actions "We welcome today's expressions of solidarity with the Tesco Worker in standing up for their rights by refusing to handle Israeli goods. If such an action was rolled out by other retailer workers at similar stores, that would be a game changer, in terms of Palestine solidarity.

"We call upon the trade union movement speak out now, both individually and collectively, to stand by the fellow worker in Tesco Newcastle, but also commit to supporting other workers who decide to take similar solidarity actions.
"Workers have the power to effectively change the situation completely in the boycott of Israeli goods. We have been shown the way by the workers of Dunnes Stores who took action against apartheid regime in South Africa.
"Each of us must stand up and support workers who stand against the Israeli apartheid regime. Actions are being organised at Tesco Stores around the country in solidarity with the Tesco Worker in Newcastle Co Down. We are asking everyone to play their part and stand in solidarity with our fellow worker."
