Members of IWW Ireland took part in solidarity actions across the country today, as nationwide protests at Tesco Stores in support of the fellow worker suspended for refusing to handle goods from so-called Israel.
Trade union and Palestine Solidarity groups rallied outside Tesco and Tesco Ireland Stores to draw attention to the Tesco Worker Campaign and to demand that they immediately reinstatement our fellow worker.
A spokesperson for the IWW Ireland Branch stated during today's action in Derry "It's vital that the labour movement take action in conjunction with Palestinian and social justice groups to demand that Tesco’s immediately withdraw any disciplinary action and allow all their workers to exercise their conscience when it comes to handling goods funding genocide.
"The solidarity and support shown to date for the Tesco Worker involved has been amazing but we need to ensure it continues. If you have a Tesco Store near you, they need to be picketed until the worker is restored to their rightful position, and all disciplinary procedures are halted.
"Workers must not be targeted, harassed or intimated for following their conscious. The genocide in Palestine continues and those involved must be brought to justice. None of us can ignore the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement and the important role it plays in the fight against the apartheid regime of Israel.
"Everyone worker has a part to play against apartheid. Whether you are a Dunnes Stores worker against the former South African regime, or a Tesco’s worker taking a stand against Israeli goods today. We must get behind them and fully support workers who take a stand. We believe that an injury to all, is an injury to all."
