The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) extends its solidarity with Irish anti war activist Daithí O’Corrain, who is currently held in Limerick Gaol. The Cork City peace activist was refused bail during an appearance before Limerick District Court on three alleged criminal offences.
A spokesperson for the IWW Ireland Branch said "The IWW extends its love and solidarity to Daithí and to his family and friends at this stressful time. Our union condemns the ongoing imprisonment of a peace activist and demands their immediate release. Right now we bare witness (again) to a genocide deliberately inflicted upon the people of Palestine by a Zionist terror regime and its supporters. We bare witness (again) to war upon the population of Lebanon and the wider West Asia by Western imperialism and those who assist them and their colonial agenda. Neutrality was once a highly respected humanitarian position held by the people of Ireland. It was a lantern in the darkness in times of war, conflict, terror and devastation. An expression of sanity, hope and safety at a time when humanity is nowhere to be found.
"The direct action carried out in disarming a US C130 Hercules military aircraft at Shannon Airport highlights the futility of war and the complicity of the Irish government in assisting the war and devastation brought upon the people of Palestine and the 'Middle East'.
"As a union, we add our voices to the call to drop all charges against Daithí O'Corrain and demand his immediate release. In doing so we call for an end to war and genocide, and a return to a secure Irish position of neutrality"
